Unlike other lasers, Fraxel light energy stimulates your skin’s natural collagen, rejuvenating skin cells below the surface to help smooth the creases and pockets that cause wrinkles and scars. Fraxel only treats targeted problem areas – so the results are focused and effective. It’s the perfect solution for people who want their skin to look younger, but don’t want to look “plastic” or fake” and can’t afford a lot of time away from work or their social life.
It’s ideal for treating fine lines and wrinkles, acne scars, surgical scars, stretch marks, age spots and more serious issues like melasma (dark patches of pigment on the face, aka the “pregnancy mask”) and Actinic Keratosis, a common pre-cancerous skin condition. Because the laser works both on the surface and the deeper layers of the skin, the result is smooth, blemish-free skin, with increased elasticity - you, only younger.
If you had a Fraxel treatment more than four years ago, you’ll be pleasantly surprised in the advances in technology. Our Fraxel Dual is far more energy efficient, with less heat needed for the same effects. That efficiency translates to a much more pleasant experience.
Fraxel can be done on any area of the body. Our pricing is divided by how large an area you would like to treat. Typical treatments are the face, face and neck, face, neck and chest, chest only, hands only, and hands and arms. Patients with extensive sun damage, acne scarring or moderate to deep wrinkles will want to schedule a series of treatments.
What To Expect
Fraxel treatments begin with application of a numbing cream an hour prior to the treatment. Patients commonly describe the feeling of the laser as a "prickling" sensation. The face feels hot afterwards - like the feeling of a sunburn - which goes away after a few hours.
Treatments typically result in one to two days of redness. By the third day, the skin may look like you have "coffee grounds" peeling away as the pigmented areas lift away from the healthy skin beneath. By the fifth day, most of the surface particles will have exfoliated, leaving your face baby fresh. With deeper treatment, the face will have a sandpaper-like texture for up to a week.
Cleansing and applying moisturizer liberally will keep the skin from feeling tight as it prepares to exfoliate. It is crucial to use a high SPF moisturizing sunblock for the week after treatment, since the skin will be extremely sensitive to sun damage.
As with all laser treatments, patients must stop using topical retinoids at least one week prior to treatment. If you are interested in Fraxel treatment of the face, neck, chest, arms, back of hands or other areas, please visit the doctor to make sure it is the right treatment for you.
