Tackle Turkey Neck Before Thanksgiving

It’s a little too early in the year to start meal planning for Thanksgiving dinner. But “Turkey Day” isn’t the only association you might have with turkey! If you’re getting older, you could be starting to see unwanted signs of the skin condition known as “turkey neck.”

As you age, the skin on your neck can become wrinkled or start to sag. As neck muscles weaken and skin loses elasticity, you may become more and more dissatisfied with this aspect of your appearance.

Dr. Karin Harp, MD, FAAD, FASDS, Dr. Aria Vazirnia, Dr. Zoe Smith, Sherri Anderson PA-C, Mary Hanna BC-NP, Alex Woodruff PA-C, Lani Keene LE, Riley McCarthy RN - the team of experts at Apex Dermatology of Westlake Village, California- advise new and existing patients on the best anti-aging care routines, including skin tightening treatments.

Here are some of the tools you can use to tackle turkey neck. If you start now, you may be amazed at the positive improvement in your appearance by Thanksgiving Day!

Address turkey neck with treatments, injectables, creams, or Botox

Some people suggest exercises to reduce the appearance of your turkey neck. However, strengthening your neck muscles doesn’t actually do a lot to improve the texture of your skin. You need targeted cosmetic products and treatments for that! With these changes to your cosmetic and skincare routine, your turkey neck could fade from view.

We offer highly effective neck creams by SkinCeuticals, Skin Medica and Alastin to get your neck improvement going with topicals and they often work well to firm up sagging skin, including in your neck area. Talk to the Apex Dermatology team about the best anti-aging and skin-firming creams to use for wrinkle reduction in your neck area.

You may also be able to effectively reduce your turkey neck with Botox® treatments. Botox (botulinum toxin type A) is delivered as an injection. It selectively paralyzes muscles, reduces skin wrinkling, reducing tech neck when combined with superficial fillers such as Belotero or biostimulatory agents such as hyperdilute Radiesse and restores a smoother outer surface. Your results with Botox last 3-4 months, and treatment can be repeated as needed.

Non-invasive options for turkey neck

Sometines dramatic turkey neck problems are best handled with cosmetic surgery. However, you also have non-invasive treatment options to address this problem area.

That includes non-invasive treatment with laser skin tightening such as Fraxel, Fraxel Dual or Sciton Erbium laser micro-peel. Laser skin tightening targets the deep layers of your skin, triggering new production of the chemicals collagen and elastin. You may need repeated treatments over the course of 4-6 months to get rid of turkey neck. Your provider at Apex Dermatology uses a medical-grade laser tool to stimulate your skin.

Apex Dermatology also offers skin-tightening treatment with noninvasive radiofrequency (RF) energy. We use the Thermage FLX™ system to stimulate the deep layers of your skin and increase collagen production without downtime.  Another option that we use with great success in improving turkey neck is Radiofrequency microneedling with our Morpheus 8 treatment.  Trusculpt iD RF treatment can be used to reduce fat and tighten skin under the chin to get the top of the turkey neck tighter if there is also excess fat in that under chin location.

Whatever strategy you choose, the best way to address your turkey neck is to start now. Don’t let the calendar turn all the way to 2025 before you take action. Contact the skin care and anti-aging experts at Apex Dermatology and get started with treatments to have you looking your best by the holidays.
